The CFW-1312M is a monochrome IEEE-1394 digital camera suitable for a wide array of both low-light and bright-field scientific imaging applications. The IEEE-1394 interface, also known as FireWire, allows for extremely easy interfacing to both desktop and notebook computers. The CFW-1312M has a large 1360 x 1024 pixel resolution with a dynamic range of 12 bits. Images may be saved in either 8, 10, or 12 bits. The frame rate of a full size image is a maximum of 7.5 frames per second. A preview mode is available which can provide frame rates of 30 frames per second. Analog gain control with amplification of low-level signals up to 100 times is provided. Also provided is exposure control with exposures from 10 ms to 100 s supported. Typical applications for which the CFW-1312M is well suited are both bright-field and low-light video microscopy and EtBr gel documentation systems. The CFW-1312M comes with several software support options. Scion VisiCapture is a full-featured application for controlling the camera and capturing and saving images. Also provided is a TWAIN module for using the camera inside of popular applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Image/J. Software for the CFW-1312C is compatible with Windows XP and 2000, and Mac OS X. The CFW-1312M comes with a 6 pin IEEE-1394 cable with a 4 pin adapter available on request for use with notebook computers.

The CFW-1312M requires a personal computer running Windows 2000 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.2 or higher. The computer requires an IEEE-1394 port, also known as FireWire or iLink. Effective frame rate is computer dependent. For best results on Windows, a Pentium IV or better computer with at least 256 Mb of RAM is recommended. For best results in Mac OS X, an Apple Macintosh G4 or better computer running with at least 256 Mb of RAM is recommended.
